About IFG
India Federation of Germany – Bundesverband der Indischen Vereinigungen e.V. was founded as Germany’s first national umbrella organization for the Indian diaspora.
IFG is a registered non-profit organization and a nationwide coordination platform that brings together Indian diaspora organizations across all 16 German federal states while fully preserving the autonomy and identity of each member organization.
Our community has grown in numbers, contribution, and ambition deeply embedded in German science, technology, business, and society. The IFG gives this community the unified structure and voice it has long deserved. We are building something that will outlast all of us a permanent institution that works for the Indian diaspora today, and for generations to come.
300,000+ strong. One of Europe’s most educated, economically active diaspora communities. Deeply embedded in German science, healthcare, engineering, and business.
€15+ billion in annual economic contribution. Yet our collective impact has gone largely unrecognized. The IFG will change that.
100+ associations across 16 states. Each doing vital work, independently. The IFG connects them into a coordinated national movement.
Germany needs skilled migration. With 1.2 million unfilled skilled positions, India and Germany have a shared interest in making this partnership work. The IFG is the bridge.
The moment is now. India-Germany bilateral relations are deepening. The political will is there. All that’s been missing is a unified voice. That voice is the IFG.
Our Mission
Together, we achieve more than any one organization can.
Shape policy and narrative on India and Indians in Germany. We serve as a strategic voice in federal decision rooms regarding immigration law, visa rules, and credential recognition.
Connect the diaspora across all 16 German states. Through our annual Diaspora Forum and cross-state business networks, we surface and recognize excellence at a federal scale.
Build bridges in business, policy, and culture. We connect German businesses to India’s skilled workforce, addressing skills shortages while fostering bilateral dialogues and expert circles to strengthen the corridor.
Help every Indian succeed in Germany. Provide last-mile integration support through student mentoring, legal networks, helplines, and crisis support, celebrating Indian culture while accelerating success in German society.
Governance
IFG operates at two levels, a national Federal Level (Bundesverband) and Regional Chapters (Landesverbände), ensuring both coordinated national advocacy and genuine local autonomy.
The registered non-profit entity based in Munich. Engages the Bundestag, federal ministries, and the Embassy of India. Sets strategic direction, coordinates national campaigns, and provides shared infrastructure for all member organizations across Germany.
Regional chapters in all 16 German federal states, launching first in Baden-Württemberg, Bayern, Berlin, Hessen, and Hamburg. Each chapter has elected local leadership, its own priorities, and direct access to state-level institutions with the state in the driver’s seat.

Our Foundation
The IFG is built on a firm set of values that guide everything we do from our governance or engagement model.
The IFG embraces the values of the German Basic Law across democracy, rule of law, human dignity, equality, and tolerance. These principles are the non-negotiable foundation of all our activities.
The IFG is strictly non-partisan. We do not campaign for any political party in Germany or elsewhere. Our advocacy is issue-based, factual, and independent of party politics.
India is home to extraordinary linguistic, cultural, religious and regional diversity. The IFG reflects this richness by welcoming diaspora organizations from every Indian state and community in Germany.
The IFG complements and empowers its member organizations. It does not direct them. Every member retains full independence in identity, governance, and operations. We coordinate; we do not control.
As a registered non-profit organization, the IFG operates with full financial transparency. Governance decisions are made democratically by member delegates, and the board is accountable to its members.
